The Nuremberg Palace of Justice was built between 1909 and 1916 in the neo-Renaissance style. The building consists of several buildings; the west building houses the public prosecutor's office, the main building with district court, regional court and higher regional court, as well as the east building, which houses the famous Schwurgerichtssaal 600. The 19th century cell prison is directly adjacent to the building.
The Palace of Justice was once the scene of an event that attracted worldwide attention - the "Nuremberg Trials" took place here from 20 November 1945 to 1 October 1946, in which leading representatives of the National Socialist regime were brought before an international court. In the Schwurgerichtssaal 600, which is still a place of jurisdiction today, 24 main war criminals had to answer for their crimes. The "Memorium Nürnberger Prozesse" (Nuremberg Trials Memorial) on the top floor of the courthouse is a place of information and documentation that shows the effects and significance of the proceedings to the present day.
