Prager Straße is Dresden's number 1 shopping address and is lined by numerous shops and department stores such as the Altmarkt-Galerie and the Centrum-Galerie between the main railway station and Altmarkt. Even before the Second World War, the "Prager" was a popular promenade that by no means stood in the shadow of Berlin's famous Ku'damm. But the destruction did not stop at Prager Strasse on the night of the bombings in 1945.
At the time of the GDR it was rebuilt as a socialist flagship quarter. Of course, the fountain in the shape of dandelion is particularly striking. As a social centre with the largest hotel complex in the city, Dresdeners meet their visitors here. Big brands and smaller, individual shops shape the picture and have something in store for everyone.
