With a total of 112 hectares, Tiergarten Hannover is a popular destination for families with children. The native wild animals run around freely in the fenced area; so there is something to discover for young and old visitors and experience nature up close on the paths.
The forest was once laid out at the request of Duke Johann Friedrich for hunting. At that time, 120 fallow deer were released here, the population of which has remained constant ever since. In addition, magnificent red deer, wild boars and numerous bird species can be admired here. A special highlight is the Tiergartenfest, which takes place every year on the second Saturday in October. The city thanks the children for the acorns and chestnuts they have collected to feed the animals in winter. There are magicians and fire-eaters to marvel at, and nature rallies and nesting box building give the little ones the chance to romp about. Everyone's highlight is the evening lampion procession through the autumn forest.
