Schlosskirche

The Schlosskirche ("Castle Church") is a former church and has been part of the exhibition rooms of the Saarlandmuseum since 2004. The church building, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, houses Christian religious art and cultural assets from the possession of the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation and other lenders. The exhibition includes works from the 13th - 19th century, which are presented according to various themes.
During your visit, pay attention to the particularly worth seeing colourful windows by Georg Meistermann and the baroque princely tombs!

The origin of today's castle church goes back to the 13th century, when the castle chapel of St. Nicholas was built on that spot. However, it was not until 1549 that it became a parish church and has been an evangelical church since the Reformation. After that it had to withstand various tests of endurance over the years, such as destruction by fire and a bombing raid during the Second World War. As if by a miracle, the outer walls and the tower were spared. In the post-war period, the reconstruction of the church was begun, which was completed in 2006 with the reconstructed tower dome from the Baroque period.
