From 1870 to 1873 the Krupp industrial family built one of the most impressive buildings in the Ruhr area: the Villa Hügel. The villa is very popular not only for the unique architecture, but also for the numerous art treasures and the spacious park. With its 269 rooms and 8100 square meters of living space, Villa Hügel is one of the most important sights in the Ruhr area and is accessible to the general public.
Throughout history, Villa Hügel has been a meeting point for influential personalities from business, politics and society, as well as artists from different fields. Even today, Villa Hügel is a place for representative events, press conferences and exhibitions. There is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of the Krupp family and many art and cultural history temporary exhibitions.
With the extensive park, Villa Hügel is a spacious local recreation area in Essen.
