Stuttgart City Library

The Stuttgart City Library impresses with its breathtaking architecture. The basic form resembles a square, which extends 40 metres into the height. From the outside, the building is characterised by matt glass blocks, and the night-time illumination of the space between the double façade is particularly worth seeing.
Inside the building is the heart of the library; a four-storey room that is completely empty except for a water feature embedded in the floor. Underneath is an event room.
The galleries rise on two underground and nine above-ground levels; the four lower levels serve as reading rooms, the upper levels house a total of 500,000 media units. The floors widen upwards towards the glass roof, facing the light. The ascent to the individual reading galleries is made possible by staircases adjoining each other.
Audioguides available for loan enable visitors to discover the book temple via two different routes; either with regard to the architectural concept or the orientation of the content.
A special highlight is also the visit to the roof terrace, which is accessible via the upper gallery and offers a magnificent view of the city.
