Steinhuder Meer

Steinhuder Meer is the largest lake in northwest Germany and is located about 30 km northwest of Hanover. The lake has an area of about 29 km² and is on average only 1.35 m deep, which is why it is also called a shallow lake.

Steinhuder Meer is a popular leisure and recreation area, especially for water sports enthusiasts such as sailors, surfers and kite surfers. Fishing is also possible here, with a variety of fish species including pike, pike-perch and eels.

Around the lake, there are numerous hiking and biking trails that lead through picturesque landscapes and offer magnificent views of the sea and the surrounding nature. There are also several nature reserves where you can observe rare species of birds and other animals and plants.

In summer, there are numerous events at Steinhuder Meer, such as the annual Steinhuder Meer in Flames, where spectacular fireworks light up the sky above the lake. Overall, Steinhuder Meer is a beautiful and diverse destination that has something to offer for everyone.
