The musical classic from London's West End
Old Opera House Frankfurt
"CATS" takes its audience into the mysterious world of the Jellicle Cats. At the annual ball in a London junkyard under the light of a full moon, the entire gang of cats - from the cunning Macavity to the innocent and beautiful Victoria to the swashbuckling seducer Rum Tum Tugger - compete for the gift of a new life. To Andrew Lloyd Webber's incomparable melodies, feline movements merge playfully with human traits. The atmospheric stage design and the unique costumes make the total work of art perfect. Emotional highlight: the world hit "Memory", with which the outcast cat diva Grizabella created one of the most touching moments in musical history.

Sad is the miller's boy, for his father, the old miller, has died. He has left him nothing as an inheritance - except a hangover. What should he do with a useless mouse-eater? But he is astonished when the cat suddenly starts talking and promises to change the miller's boy's fate for the better. All he, the tomcat, needs for this is a pair of new boots. At the same time, there is great excitement in the nearby castle: The king is sick! He needs partridges for his recovery, but they are hard to catch. A brave hero is needed to get the king the precious "medicine". As a reward, he would get the king's daughter as his wife.  With cunning and trickery, the clever tomcat not only helps his master to prosperity and prestige, he also ensures that he is allowed to marry the princess.

Clear the ring for the "Great Christmas Circus Frankfurt". Once again this year, visitors to the 2000-person capacity tent palace can look forward to an absolute world star program with world-class artists, clowns and animal trainers. With the Pellegrini Brothers, for example, real "legends of artistry" are coming to Frankfurt, who won the Golden Clown - the Oscar of the circus world - at the Monte Carlo Circus Festival for their power-packed handstand acrobatics. Also clown winners - silver and bronze - are the comedian Jigalov and the Hungarian equestrian family Donnert.

As is generally known, the truth lies in the middle. And so it is with Rolando Villazón and Xavier de Maistre. Both are among the top stars in their field - although the latter is admittedly difficult to grasp, so wide-ranging are their artistic activities. For in the case of both of them, it is not just a single musical path that they tread. Stylistic expectations are out of place with them. With curiosity and infectious enthusiasm, they regularly adopt different perspectives and open up new vistas for music. In their first joint program, they visit Villazón's Mexican homeland and create a song evening full of South American temperament.

With the Passion Oratorio, harpsichordist and Bach scholar Alexander Grychtolik now brings another vocal work into play - apparently composed by Bach for Good Friday in 1725. What survives is not only parts of the music that have survived in other Bach works, but also Picander's text: a free poem that, even more than the Gospel accounts, foregrounds the personal suffering of Jesus. Grychtolik completed the work and now premieres it in Frankfurt together with the Belgian ensemble Il Gardellino.

CHILDREN'S DAY at the Alte Oper
On a discovery tour through the house

Open house! For one day we leave the house to our young audience.
We have once again designed an extensive program that invites children up to ten years of age and their families to get to know the PEGASUS program and explore the Alte Oper together. They can explore and make their own musical instruments, play drums or sing, and go on a musical scavenger hunt through the entire building. For the youngest, we have finger and knee riding games in the program. And of course there are concerts for all ages. For the very youngest, we have a Discovery Concert, for kindergarten children we have a Rabauken-und-Trompeten Concert, and for elementary school children we have invited Louie's Cage Percussion, who already caused storms of enthusiasm at the 40th anniversary of the Alte Oper in August 2021. The offerings spread throughout the house can be arranged individually. We offer two time slots to choose from - a morning and an afternoon session.

A large civic festival will be held to mark the 175th anniversary of the National Assembly meeting in St. Paul's Church.

Paulskirche symbolizes the tradition of a democratic and free constitution for the German nation like no other place. The imperial constitution adopted here by the first German National Assembly on March 28, 1849
with its fundamental rights of the German people shaped the Weimar Constitution of 1919 and the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany of 1949.

The Mainfest at the Mainkai, Fahrtor and Römerberg is one of the oldest popular festivals in Frankfurt. Today, the Mainfest with its large summer gardens on the banks of the Main is a great way to experience the river and its banks. Among other things, 114 rides, children's carousels, game and shooting stands, sales booths, confectionery, summer gardens and snack/specialty stands are offered.

The "Fischerstechen" will also take place again on 07.08.23 at 4 p.m. at Eiserner Steg. The Mainfest opens with wine from the Justice Fountain and closes with a superlative fireworks display.

One thing is for sure: Element of Crime will release a new album in spring 2023, which will be the fifteenth studio album of this distinctive and resilient band. And of course there will be a tour to go with it, it will be in late summer and autumn 2023, and after all there is probably no better time than the last warm days and the first leaves falling from the trees to indulge in the melancholically optimistic songs and sounds of a band that for 35 years has reconciled the hard facts of life with the feeling of hope and love in a truly unique way. The title of the new album is not yet revealed, maybe it is not yet fixed, who knows, in any case, the songs for it are written and recorded. The year 2023 will be better than 2022, that much is already certain.

The three bald blue characters are now accompanied in their slapstick escapades by a female protagonist, "The Musician", who replaces the traditional band as a multi-instrumentalist. With striking blue hair and an eccentric, otherworldly look, she leads through the program as a sort of shaman-like "Master of Ceremonies." The show has plenty of new twists, but of course it includes indispensable evergreens like water twirling drums, marshmallow tossing and color spitting.
