Hanseatic City of Rostock and seaside resort Warnemünde

The Hanseatic city of Rostock looks back on a long and eventful past. As a gateway to the world and an important trading center, the port of Rostock was one of the most important in the region for centuries, along with Stralsund and Wismar. Stately town houses, imposing churches and parts of the mighty medieval city wall that still exist today bear witness to the city's heyday as a member of the Hanseatic League. But also the university medicine is of recognized reputation. Many historical monuments in the brick Gothic style invite you to take a walk through the historic city center. The Old Market with St. Peter's Church, as well as St. Nicholas Church, St. Mary's Church, magnificent merchants' houses and the three medieval brick city gates are all worth a visit.
The seaside resort of Warnemünde with its kilometer-long sandy beach is, along with the three other seaside resorts of Markgrafenheide, Diedrichshagen and Hohe Düne as districts of the Hanseatic city, a very special jewel of Rostock. The ensemble of lighthouse and "Teepot" is the unmistakable landmark of the seaside resort and awakens maritime longings with its mere sight. It is the starting point for many exploration tours. The adjoining seaside promenade invites you to take long walks between the roaring Baltic Sea and neoclassical seaside resort architecture. The "Old Stream" is the second promenade of the seaside resort with the old fishing boats, passenger ships, lovingly restored historic buildings and numerous boutiques and restaurants. It is also home to Germany's largest cruise port.
