Mummelsee

The Mummelsee is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the northern Black Forest thanks to its beautiful surroundings at the foot of the Hornisgrinde and its favorable location directly on the beautiful Black Forest High Road. Together with the Seebachle, which rises from the lake, it is the eponym for the Black Forest village of Seebach.
As one of the seven remaining Karsee lakes of the Black Forest, it is a remnant from the last ice age. With a circumference of 800 meters, an altitude of 1036 meters and a depth of 17 meters, it is the largest, highest and deepest of the seven Karsee lakes.
It enchants with unspoiled landscapes and natural circular paths. You can take a walk around the lake, walk along the art trail or hike to the nearby Hornisgrinde peak with a wonderful view of the lake. If you would like to enjoy the surroundings from the water, take a fun-filled tour on a pedal boat, and in winter snow-covered ski slopes and toboggan runs are a tempting option.
For those who want to experience even more unspoiled nature, a visit to the nearby Visitor Center of the Black Forest National Park is a must. From here, guided tours with rangers through the designated nature reserve start several times a day.
Especially recommended is a stop at the restaurant of the Berghotel Mummelsee. Before the construction of the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, the oldest hotel in the Black Forest could only be reached on foot until 1930. Here you can enjoy regional delicacies with a magnificent view of the lake.
