Situated in the Brandenburg district of Potsdam-Mittelmark and surrounded by the river Havel is the beautiful little town of Werder. The town centre and the historic old town are picturesquely situated on an island in the Havel and do credit to the town's reputation as a recognised recreational area, because here it is possible to slow down wonderfully. Whether it is a walk across the island to the town's landmarks, along the historic town houses and quaint fishermen's cottages to the Heilig-Geist church or the Bock windmill on the Mühlenberg.
The city and its surroundings are known nationwide as the fruit chamber of Berlin. A cycle tour on the Panorama Cycle Path is the ideal way to explore the area along the wine growing areas and fruit farms and discover regional products such as fruit and wine. Last but not least, of course, the city also hosts the annual Tree Blossom Festival - one of the largest folk festivals in the country. Several hundred thousand visitors enjoy delicious fruit wine and the big fireworks at the end of the festival, which lasts several days in May.
