As the most important train station in Essen, the Central Station is the focal point for long-distance, regional and S-Bahn transport. The central station receives around 170,000 travelers a day, making it the ninth busiest long-distance train station for Deutsche Bahn.
The station hall consists of two levels. Numerous shops and the travel center are on the first level. On both levels, travelers will find plenty of dining options. The lower level also connects the city center with the southern district.
As the main traffic hub in Essen, five S-Bahn and three U-Bahn lines, additionally to Deutsche Bahn long-distance trains, also operate here.
