The Stuttgart television tower is the first of its kind in the world. The landmark of Stuttgart was put into operation in 1956 and the antennas were used to broadcast television and FM radio programs. The 217 metre high tower is considered a perfect example of television towers all over the world - the prototype was exported to Frankfurt and Dortmund and even to Johannesburg and Wuhan in China.
The tower owes its particular popularity among Stuttgarters and their guests to its circular cylindrical basket, which not only contains the transmitter technology, but also a viewing platform and restaurant at a height of approx. 150 metres. The view of the city, over the Swabian countryside to the Alb, the Black Forest and the Odenwald is unique in the entire urban area.
