KIT - Kunst im Tunnel is an impressive exhibition space for contemporary art located directly under the Rhine promenade in Düsseldorf. The space was opened in 2007 and offers an elliptically shaped exhibition area that runs parallel to the Rhine and exhibits young artist:s invited by the artistic director Gertrud Peters.
The KIT program focuses on the presentation of young, contemporary art from the fields of sculpture, painting, photography, video and installation art. There are about four to six temporary exhibitions per year, mostly in the form of group exhibitions, in rare cases also solo exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition of the works, it is a major concern of KIT to promote the direct communication of the exhibition contents through workshops and guided tours, which often take place in cooperation with the young exhibiting artists.
The architecture of the exhibition space and the location under the Rhine promenade make KIT a unique place for contemporary art in Germany.
