History :

The castle square has a long history dating back to the 12th century. Originally, there was a castle complex here, which was expanded into a fortress in the 14th century. In the 16th century, the fortress was expanded and served as a residence for the Duke of Jülich-Kleve-Berg. Over time, the fortress was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded. During World War II, the fortress square was severely damaged, but was rebuilt in the 1950s. Today the square is an important part of the historic center of Düsseldorf and an important cultural center of the city.
