The city survey monument is to commemorate the handing over of city rights to Dusseldorf and is located in the immediate vicinity of the castle square with the castle tower.
The city survey monument was designed by Bert Gerresheim in 1988 to mark the 700th anniversary of the transfer of city rights. With the transfer of city rights Dusseldorf has also been granted the market rights. This is to symbolize the cart rightmost. Also the town survey document is visible on the monument. Today the lion forms the emblem of the state capital.
