The Krämerbrücke is one of the most famous landmarks in the city of Erfurt. Centrally located in the city centre, it runs over the river Gera. The special feature of the structure is the half-timbered houses on both sides, which also earned it the title of "Europe's longest continuously built bridge". In addition to 32 residential buildings, visitors will find numerous regional shops and restaurants. It was given its name in the Middle Ages, when it was already a trading centre for numerous merchants. Once made of wood, it has been converted into a massive stone bridge over the centuries. In summer, the Krämerbrückenfest (Merchants' Bridge Festival) attracts numerous visitors to stay and enjoy.
