Munich Residence

The Munich Residenz served as the residence and seat of government of Bavarian dukes, electors and kings for over four centuries. It developed from a late medieval moated castle into an extensive and magnificent palace complex. With fascinating spatial works of art from the Renaissance to Classicism as well as the precious original furnishings, it is one of the most important palace museums in the world.

The Antiquarium, for example, is the largest Renaissance hall north of the Alps. Another architectural attraction is the Cuvilliés Theater in the style of the Bavarian Rococo. In addition to precious holdings of furniture, paintings, sculptures, bronzes, clocks and tapestries in the showrooms, there are numerous important special collections on display.

In the Königsbau, the precious treasury of the Wittelsbach dynasty is presented. In the rear areas of the Königsbau, more than 20 exhibition rooms await visitors with gems and masterpieces from the rich holdings of the former porcelain and silver chambers of the Wittelsbach dynasty, as well as the precious collection of miniatures.

Let yourself be whisked away on an exciting excursion through the history of the Munich Residenz!
