The Munich Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany and was the residence and seat of government of the Wittelsbach dynasty until 1918. Historic state rooms and first-class art and architectural jewels take you on a journey through time over four centuries.
Nymphenburg Palace was commissioned from 1664 by Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria and his wife Henriette Adelaide of Savoy as a summer palace based on Italian models. Their successors had the palace complex expanded and redesigned according to the spirit of the times. Famous among other things are the "Beauty Gallery" of King Ludwig I, the Stone Hall and the Marstall Museum.
The extensive Schleißheim palace complex comprises three palaces: the Old Palace, the electoral hunting lodge Lustheim and the magnificent New Schleißheim Palace. Henrico Zuccalli and Joseph Effner built one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe for Elector Max Emanuel. The magnificent furnishings of the New Palace and the courtyard garden have been preserved in their basic Baroque structure to this day. Lustheim Palace houses a famous collection of Meissen porcelain.
Dachau Palace dates back to a high medieval castle and was expanded into a mighty palace complex. The Renaissance coffered ceiling in the banqueting hall is one of the most important creations of its kind in southern Germany.
