The Lion Fountain is a popular meeting point and starting point for many city tours. It is located on the University Square directly in front of the main portal of the Old Assembly Hall. It was an important part of the city's main water supply, which is why the lion was chosen to crown the fountain. The heraldic animal of the Electoral Palatinate stands for strength. The fountain was probably built in modern times and thus in front of the Old Assembly Hall. But nobody can say exactly. Even if the date 1712 is carved into the lion sculpture, this says little about the actual age of the fountain, since it is already a repeated reproduction of the original.
