English Garden

With an area of 384 hectares or 427 hectares (incl. Maximiliansanlagen, Hofgarten and Finanzgarten), the English Garden is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world and offers numerous opportunities for leisure activities, especially in summer. There are various hiking and biking trails and a boat rental at Kleinhesseloher See. Of course, the English Garden is also particularly famous for its beer gardens. Tourist attractions are the beer gardens at the Chinese Tower and the Seehaus. Things are a bit quieter in the north at the Aumeister and in the Hirschau, which are not so centrally located, but are wonderful to reach by bike through the park. Other sights include the Greek-style Monopteros and the Japanese Tea House.

The English Garden is both artistically of high quality and social-historically as the first public garden on the continent of great importance for the further development of public urban greenery. Characterized by generous expanses with constantly changing visual references to park architecture and landscape elements, by deep spaces and backdrops marked by the interplay between light and shadow, the English Garden has gone down in the history of garden art as a prime example of the classical landscape garden.
