The Neues Museum is considered the most visited museum of the National Museums in Berlin. It is located on Berlin's Museum Island and, like the entire building ensemble, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was commissioned by King Frederick William IV and built in the Classical and Neo-Renaissance styles.
The museum houses the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History and part of the Collection of Classical Antiquities. In total, the museum includes over 9,000 historical exhibits and significant objects of Egyptian high culture, the Old World and ancient testimonies. Highlights of the fascinating collection include the Green Head, the bust of Nefertiti, the Bronze Age Berlin Gold Hat and precious silver vessels from the treasure of Priam.
