Merkurberg

The Merkurberg is with 668 meters height the local mountain of Baden-Baden and is located directly at the foot of the beautiful spa town. With the exciting ascent with the Merkurberbergbahn (cable car), the picturesque view from the peak and the beautiful hiking trails, it is a popular destination and invites you to walk and experience.For more than 100 years, Germany's longest funicular railroad has been transporting excursionists and nature lovers safely and comfortably from the valley station to the top of the mountain named after the Roman god of trade and commerce. After pressing the departure button, the ride takes about five minutes. Meanwhile, the cable car climbs 370 m of altitude to 1192 m with a gradient of between 23% and 54%.
At the top you can reach the viewing platform of the Merkurturm with the free elevator. From here you have a breathtaking view over the northern Black Forest mountains, the Murg valley and the Upper Rhine plain to the Vosges and the Odenwald, as well as Karlsruhe and Strasbourg. Here you will also find the cosy Gipfelrestaurant Merkurstüble. A lawn for sunbathing, a spacious playground and a public barbecue area ensure sociable hours and invite you to linger.
For those who prefer to climb the peak on foot, there are clearly arranged hiking trails. Wildlife enclosures of the city forest on the way up provide exciting variety on the mountain ridge. Here red, fallow and black deer can be observed and the enclosure can be hiked around on a circular path of 3.8 km length.
Another visitor highlight is the opportunity to enjoy Baden-Baden and its beautiful surroundings from above during a tandem flight in a paraglider.
