Ravennaschlucht

The Ravenna Gorge is a narrow valley, which is assigned to the Valley of Hell and through which the wild Ravenna stream makes its way over numerous cascades and waterfalls. Among them are the 16-meter Ravenna Falls and the small Ravenna Falls with 6 meters. Located in the immediate vicinity of Freiburg and between Titisee, Schauinsland and Feldberg, the Heimatpfad Hochschwarzwald leads through the picturesque valley and along contemplative attractions such as the historic ropemakers and the Mooshofmühle. For centuries ropes were produced here with the power of water and the mill was operated. The restored historical buildings are open to visitors on guided tours.

By the way:
One of the oldest testimonies to the settlement of the region and also a highlight worth seeing is the St. Oswald Chapel in early Gothic style. In 1148 it was considered the first parish church in the village. After severe damage by bombings during the Second World War it had to be restored and is now open for viewing and silent prayer. The key is available for a deposit in the likewise historic Hofgut Sternen. During her bridal journey from Vienna to Versailles, Marie-Antoinette is said to have stopped here in 1770 and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1779. This is also a good starting point for a circular hike over Hinterzarten. The 37 meter high Ravennabrücke, where the Höllentalbahn crosses the exit of the gorge, marks the end of the hike.
Be careful on wet and slippery paths!
