"Burning Mountain"

The "Burning Mountain" in the Saar Coal Forest is a very special natural spectacle. Since the middle of the 17th century, a coal seam that has caught fire has been smoldering inside the mountain between the villages of Dudweiler, Sulzbach and Neuweiler. To this day, hikers and passers-by can still see the plumes of smoke and perceive the musty sulphur smell. However, the rising steam is no longer quite as visible after the past centuries, which is why a visit is particularly recommended after rainy days and in winter.
On three adventure trails around the Burning Mountain, hikers and inquisitive visitors can explore the area interactively at numerous information points under the themes of "industrial heritage", which is dominated by the former coal mining industry of the Saarland, "water" and "forest".
