Old Synagoge Erfurt

In addition to many historical buildings, Erfurt is home to a special ensemble of Jewish life. This consists of the oldest synagogue (more than 900 years old), which has been preserved up to the roof, a mikvah near the Krämerbrücke (Merchants' Bridge) which is more than 750 years old, and a gold and silver treasure. A mikvah was a ritual bath, which was used for ritual cleansing after impurities. These historical artefacts have survived the centuries and are open to the public. In the future, the ensemble is to become part of the UNSESCO World Heritage.
