Church St. Andreas

The Catholic Church of St. Andreas is located in the middle of Dusseldorf's old town. It is a former Jesuit church and is considered one of the most important buildings in the city from an art historical point of view.
Despite the unrest of the Thirty Years' War, the church was completed in 1629 in the Baroque style after only seven years of construction. Particularly enchanting are the extensive Baroque stucco works in the interior of the church as well as numerous life-size statues of the apostles, evangelists and various saints of the Jesuit order, which adorn the side aisles of the church.
Some elements had to be redesigned due to damage caused to the church during the Second World War. For example, the altar was redesigned and the organ expanded by 18 sections.
