The “Heumarkt” is the second biggest square of cologne and is in the north of the old city. Until the Middle Ages the “Haumarkt” and “Alte Markt” built a unit. With the length of 950m it’s own of the most beautiful places in cologne. In contemporary time the “Heumarkt” is popular for its extensive gastronomy, restaurants and brew houses. Moreover, one can visit concerts or other special events at the square. Therefore, the square is made for an obligatory glass of “Kölsch”.
In the place there are two listed landmarks. The “Reiterdenkmal” from 1865 which shows Friedrich Wilhelm the 3rd of Prussia. It is supposed to remember the union of the Rhineland and Prussia in 1815. The second landmark is the corner house called “Zum goldenen Fuß”. The facade of the house is in a Baroque architectural style, this is very rare for the region of Cologne
