From the former main church St. Nikolai (in Engl.: Nicholas) with the spectacular church tower (147.3m) only ruins survived the 2nd World War. Nowadays St. Nikolai serves as a museum and as Hamburg’s central memorial for the victims of the Nazi regime. A panoramic glass elevator takes visitors to the viewing platform at 76m height. Since 1993, one of Germany’s biggest chimes is installed in the tower. Also concerts and readings take place.
