The "New Synagogue" in the Oranienburger Straße is one of the most glorious buildings in Berlin.
The front is characterized by the golden shimmering dome that rises above the Spandauer Vorstadt. It first opened its doors in 1866 and gave place to 3.000 people. In World War II, the main prayer hall was severely damaged and never restored.
Today, there is a permanent exhibition about Jewish life in Berlin in the old administration premises. Located further down the Oranienburger Straße is the "Old Post Office", built in Prussian Renaissance style.
