Plants. Life. Culture
for 150 years
Plants from all over the world, old trees, meadows and water, wildness and knowledge, art and culture - the Palmengarten is a place without equal.
The garden covers 19 hectares, and around 13,000 plant species grow in its open spaces and under the roofs of its show houses, some of which are historic. Exhibitions, themed tours and musical events make the Palmengarten a magnet for visitors at any time of year. Not among people, by the way: If you walk along the meadows and flower beds of the Palmengarten on a summer day, you will come across countless insects there, some of which have even become rare. The Flower and Butterfly House, which was opened in the summer of the anniversary year 2021, is dedicated to them and their importance for the ecosystem. There, visitors can experience the life cycle of a butterfly from egg to caterpillar and chrysalis to butterfly, and learn about the life and relevance of insects in the neighboring exhibition "Dusted off - by flowers and their pollinators." Visitors will also encounter the current central theme of flower ecology in the information exhibition - as well as in many other places in the Palmengarten and also in the Botanic Garden, which has been united with the Palmengarten since 2012.
