The Hall of Fame on the Theresienwiese hill was built between 1843 and 1853 by order of King Ludwig I of Bavaria as a temple of honor for important Bavarian personalities who had rendered outstanding services to their country, to science and art.
Busts of these personalities were placed inside the three-winged portico designed by Leo von Klenze, a tradition that has continued since 1966.
The casting of the 18.52-meter-high statue of Bavaria, designed by Ludwig Schwanthaler, was carried out by Ferdinand von Miller and was considered a technical masterpiece at the time. It is the only large bronze in Germany that can be walked on. In its cavity you can climb up a steep spiral staircase to a viewing platform in the head.
