A cultural route from Bavaria to the Ionian Sea
Empress Elisabeth's life is actually a labyrinth of a thousand paths: because the Austrian monarch was a passionate traveler. Today she would certainly be called a globetrotter.
In 2002, the Sisi Road was formed in her memory: a cultural travel route to selected towns, castles, parks and places that are inextricably linked with the restless life of this so modern empress.
The Sisi Road follows many stations of the Bavarian-born, nature-loving Wittelsbach empress. It features many established and yet also new destinations. This historical cultural route "à la Sisi" is a travel recommendation for both individual tourists and travel groups to large and small towns, to chambers and monuments, well-known and lesser-known museums, to "insider tips", garden and park landscapes, quiet and lively places.
Today, the Sisi Road leads to Bavaria, through Austria and Hungary, through Italy to the Adriatic coast, to the Greek island of Corfu and to Switzerland - where the empress's life came to an abrupt end in 1898.
But Sisi's legend lives on. See and experience for yourself.
