The Rheingau is home to the Cistercian monastery Eberbach that was founded in 1136 and is one of the most significant monuments of the European Middle Ages. Highlights of the monastery are the well worth seeing basilica and the unique dormitory of the monks. Eberbach monastery gained worldwide fame by being the setting of the film “The name of the Rose”. It is the oldest and biggest winery of Germany. Wine tastings and tours are on offer and the monastery is a unique event location.
