The historic Kröpcke clock is one of Hanover's landmarks. Located centrally on the Kröpcke, it is a popular meeting place for residents and guests of the capital of Lower Saxony in the middle of the busy pedestrian zone. The clock was inaugurated in 1885 and has always served as a showcase for various art exhibitions. Today it is run by the Verein Kulturraum Region Hannover and used for art events by a wide variety of artists. Although it survived the horrors of the Second World War and one of the heaviest air raids on Hanover unscathed, it was replaced by a replica in 1977.
