Albrecht-Dürer-Haus

The Albrecht-Dürer- Haus got its name from Nuremberg's most well-known son and Germany's most famous painter. He bought the house in 1509 for 275 guilders and lived there with his wife, his mother and several apprentices for almost 20 years until his death in 1528. The half-timbered house is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kaiserburg, in the old town of Sebald. Since 1871 a museum has been set up here, which serves as a memorial site for the artist and depicts the historical living rooms mostly true to the original. A special attraction are also the guided tours by an actress as Dürer's wife Agnes, who takes visitors through changing exhibitions, the municipal art collection and the workshop where historical printing techniques are explained and demonstrated.
