University Square Heidelberg

Formerly called Paradeplatz or Ludwigsplatz, it stretches west and south of the Old University and is bordered by the New University to the south. It covers the foundation walls of the former Augustinian monastery where Martin Luther justified his theses in the Heidelberg Disputation in 1518 and is located directly on the main street. On the west side runs the Grabengasse, which shows the exact course of the first city fortifications.
Today the square is one of the central junctions and the bus stop is one of the most used in Heidelberg. This is of course due to the numerous students, but also the guests of the city can quickly reach many sights from here. The University Square is therefore ideally suited as a starting point for extended discovery tours through the city.
The square is especially recommendable during the Christmas season, as most of Heidelberg's Christmas market is located here with over 80 stalls.
