Like the New Town Hall in Munich, the town hall St. Johann of the state capital Saarbrücken was designed by Georg von Hauberrisser in neo-Gothic style and built between 1897 and 1900. The centrepiece is the 54-metre high town hall tower, from where a carillon sounds twice a day. During a tour of the town hall, both the interior of the tower and the carillon can be viewed from close up. By the way, from up here you can also enjoy a breathtaking view over the state capital!
The front façade is preserved in its original state and decorated with sandstone figures symbolizing the old craftsmen's stalls.
Inside, the historic ballroom of the town hall is particularly worth a visit. About 1000 wedding ceremonies take place here every year!
