With its remarkable shape the Berlin Cathedral Church is one of the main tourist attractions in the heart of the German capital. The building was designed in neobaroque style and completed in 1905. The Cathedral was destroyed by a bomb in the 2nd world war, but reopened in 1993 after enduring reconstruction work.
Visitors who come to the cathedral often are surprised by its magnificence which is unusual for protestant churches. Corinth columns and pilasters, statues and reliefs, tessellated paintings and glass paintings, gold and marble decorate the interior. In addition to the magnificent sermon church, the “Baptismal and Matrimonial Chapel“, the church museum and the Hohenzollern Crypt can also be visited. The latter contains 94 entombments for members of the House of Hohenzollern, amongst them kings and queens. Visitors of the dome have a marvelous panorama including the Museum Island and the historical center of Berlin.
