Gödens Castle

Gödens Castle is an imposing moated castle in Sande, East Frisia, just five kilometers as the crow flies from the North Sea coast. The origins of the castle date back to the Middle Ages, when a castle was already built on the site. Since then, the complex has been expanded and, after a fire in 1669, shines in Baroque style. This was followed by additions such as the north wing, the gate to the castle park and a magnificent two-story flight of steps leading into the castle interior.
With its valuable inventory and the impressive brick facade in Dutch style, it is considered one of the most beautiful castles in East Frisia. Particularly worth seeing is the state hall with its ceiling paintings depicting Greek mythology.
The castle is administered by the Gödens Castle Heritage Foundation and regularly serves as a venue for events such as the country party over Whitsun or the annual Christmas market on Advent weekends. Various exhibitors invite you to a relaxed shopping tour in a cozy atmosphere against a sublime backdrop.
