Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site

The Unesco World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte is a closed-down ironworks from the time of industrialisation and is considered one of the most important industrial monuments in the world. It is located in the town of Völklingen in Saarland, about 13 km from the state capital Saarbrücken, and is definitely worth a visit! An exciting multimedia presentation in the sintering plant provides an insight into the history of the Völklingen Ironworks from its beginnings in 1873 to the present day. Then it's off on an adventure for young and old: visit the dark corridors of the Milling Hall and don't miss the view from the viewing platform at the blast furnace! And the roof of the ore hall also offers a fascinating panoramic view of the city and the active works of Saarstahl AG.
In total, the signposted tour takes you around 7 km through the entire plant and takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your individual pace. The picnic area at the pelletizing plant invites you to take a breather with an idyllic view of the pelletizing basin covered with plants.
The UNESCO Visitor Centre is the starting point of the visitor trail and provides insights into the history of the Völklinger Hütte.
The visitor centre is rounded off by changing exhibitions on various topics.
