In the north of Erfurt is the largest zoo in Thuringia. Opened in 1959, the zoo covers 63 hectares and is home to around 136 animal species and almost 900 animals. Visitors can discover numerous theme worlds, including the largest facility for African elephants in Germany. The experience of getting to know animals in their natural environment is the main focus here. Areas such as the petting enclosure and the show farm invite visitors to participate. Visit popular animals such as the rhinoceros calf Kiano and the lion cub Latika, which even has Bodo Ramelow as its godfather. But the zoo is not only home to various animals, it is also the film location for the TV series "Tierärztin Dr. Mertens"!
