Fehmarn

With five lighthouses, 20 beaches, 42 villages, 78 km of coastline and an area of 185 sqm, Fehmarn is the third largest island in Germany.
With several small towns and villages, the island has retained its tranquility and idyll despite its popularity as a popular vacation destination. With 6,000 inhabitants (that's half of the entire island population!), the Baltic resort of Burg is the largest village and also the charming center of the island.
Accessible via the affectionately christened "coat hanger," the 963-meter-long Fehmarnsund Bridge, the sunny and family island has something to offer everyone. Soft sandy beaches in the south attract paddling enthusiasts and sun worshippers, the bizarre cliffs in the east all adventurers, the dunes and the Wallnau waterfowl reserve in the west appeal to nature lovers, and Burg with its pretty brick facades and museums to lovers of culture and architecture. The town hall and St. Nikolai Church are particularly tranquil. Incidentally, old farms still exist in the middle of the city to the present day, and nowadays they are located in the middle of residential areas that have developed around them over the course of time.
The maritime flair can be felt everywhere. It smells of fresh sea air, the sun shines from the sky, a light breeze sweeps along the beach and fishermen offer their freshly caught fish for sale at the harbor.

Fehmarns five lighthouses :

In wind and weather, they ensure safety and orientation on the high seas and are the maritime landmark par excellence: the island of Fehmarn boasts five lighthouses. They are very popular with vacationers, as they incomparably embody the longing for sea air and are worth a trip at any time of year.
Located in the southwest, Flügge Lighthouse is the island's most popular beacon, as it is the only one that invites visitors to tour and gaze longingly into the distance from the visitor platform. It is 162 meters to the viewing gallery. Once you have conquered this, you are offered a breathtaking view that stretches across the Fehmarnsund Bridge all the way to Heiligenhafen on the mainland coast and as far as Denmark. Opening hours: April 1 - October 31, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (last admission: 4:30 p.m.)
But the other four lighthouses are also worth seeing - for example, the Westermarkelsdorf lighthouse in the northwest not only provides orientation for passing ships, but also attracts walkers and day trippers who like to indulge in the fascination and take a close look at the beacon. The lighthouse Strukkamphuk directly west of the Fehmarnsund Bridge forms together with the "Flügge" the leading light through the Fahmarnsund. Only since 1932 the today's concrete tower functions as a direction light at this place. The Staberhuk lighthouse at the southeastern tip is the youngest and at the same time the most unusual on the island. It has existed since 1903 and is weathered with a mixture of yellow and red bricks. In the northeast of the island the lighthouse Marienleuchte serves the orientation - named after the Danish queen Marie Sophie Frederikke, the slender tower was inaugurated in 1832. By the way, the fire is monitored and remotely controlled from the branch office in Travemünde. So every beacon has something special to offer and is undoubtedly worth a visit on occasion.
