The Leineschloss was built in 1637 in classicist style and has been the seat of the Lower Saxony state parliament since 1962. The castle complex is situated on the Leine and has a turbulent past behind it. Over the years it has served each of its owners in a different way - as a residential building, as a monastery, as an opera house and library and even as barracks for soldiers. Due to its versatile functions, the building has already undergone several extensions and conversions and was rebuilt after the destructions of the Second World War.
