The Cologne Zoo is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in Germany. Around 10,000 animals from more than 750 different species are at home in the Zoological Garden of the cathedral city. One of the current main attractions is the 20,000 qm elephant park, which caused a stir throughout Europe in April 2006 with the birth of the first baby elephant from Marlar in Cologne. For the 150th anniversary of the zoo in 2010, a new adventure project was realized - the Hippodome: an African river landscape that harbors hippos, Nile crocodiles, Sitatunga antelope and other inhabitants of the South African river plain. At lofty heights, the hall, a free-flight facility, offers plenty of space for numerous bird species and fruit bats to circle above the minds of visitors. The unique architecture offers an impressive insight into the unique river landscape - under water, through a 15m long glass pane, from a bird's eye view and eye to eye. The replica of a crocodile skull with its pointed teeth to touch makes the visit a holistic experience for all the senses. Hippos and Krokos in a new dimension!
