Stiftung KERAMION

The KERAMION in Frechen is a fascinating museum for ceramics. It is supported by a private foundation and houses two exceptional collections: An internationally renowned collection of modern unique ceramics and a historical collection of regional ceramics.

In addition to the permanent presentation of the historical department and the temporary exhibitions of the collections, there are also special exhibitions several times a year. The range of topics is as varied as the processing possibilities of the material clay: individual exhibitions of classical to experimental artists are presented, as well as national and international overview shows. In addition, there are thematic exhibitions on archaeological, cultural-historical or current issues. A special highlight is the presentation of the Frechen Ceramics Award.

The KERAMION in Frechen houses a historical department showing a piece of Rhenish ceramic history. Pottery products from Frechen are presented, which were manufactured from the 13th to the 20th century and are known as Pingsdorf ware, Rhenish stoneware and earthenware from the Lower Rhine. The exhibition includes stoneware Bartmann jugs and lead-glazed, colorfully painted picture bowls typical of local production. The Dr. Gottfried Cremer collection forms the basis of the KERAMION's holdings of modern ceramics. With about 5,000 pieces from more than 500 ceramists, it is one of the largest and highest quality private ceramics collections in Germany. The focus is on German unique ceramics, but all renowned European ceramists are included. Parts of the collection are exhibited on a rotating basis under different themes, and since 1992 there has been an outdoor sculpture park
