Seal Sanctuary Friedrichskoog

The Friedrichskoog Seal Sanctuary provides a safe haven for distressed seals and harbor seals. Normally, they feel perfectly at home on the coastal sandbanks of the Wadden Sea, especially on the Helgoland Dune. However, it can happen that sick or abandoned animals can no longer cope alone in their natural habitat. They are taken in at the seal sanctuary and nursed until they can live on their own in the wild again. The animals are raised here as close to nature as possible with little contact with humans.
A few seals that can no longer be released into the wild because they could no longer survive in the harsh natural environment also live permanently at the facility. They are not used to taking care of themselves and would starve to death in the harsh habitat of the North Sea.
The sanctuary and breeding station is a popular destination for excursions and offers the ideal setting to get to know the marine mammals up close without irritating or disturbing them. Commented feedings and guided tours and interactive experience stations in the information center of the Wadden Sea National Park take visitors into the world of the cute mammals.
