Collections:
The "Egyptian Art" collection at the Museum August Kestner is one of the museum's most important. It includes a large number of Egyptian objects from different periods, including mummies, funerary objects, statues, jewelry, panel paintings and stelae. Particularly noteworthy is the mummy of the "Lady of the House" from the Late Period (ca. 700 BC), which is one of the most famous pieces in the collection.
The collection "Ancient Cultures" is also very extensive and includes objects from Greece, Rome and other ancient cultures. Here are exhibited ancient sculptures, ceramics, jewelry and other artifacts. Special attention deserves the "Venus of Sirente", a Roman statue of a goddess from the middle of the 1st century AD.
The "Applied Arts" collection includes an extensive selection of handicrafts from various cultures, including ceramics, porcelain, textiles, furniture and other art objects. Various paintings, graphics and sculptures are also exhibited here.
The "Numismatics" collection at the August Kestner Museum includes a large selection of coins and medals from various countries and eras. The collection offers an insight into the history and economy of various countries and shows the development of money as a means of payment over time.
