Nature reserves
:
Grüner Brink
The Green Brink on Fehmarn's north coast covers more than 130 hectares and serves as a resting place for many wading birds and waterfowl, but it is also a popular resting place for people. Well-developed hiking trails between the self-contained inland lakes allow visitors to enjoy bird watching.
Wallnau waterbird reserve
The Wallnau Waterfowl Reserve offers migratory birds the best conditions to feed, rest or raise their young on their long journeys. Especially in spring and autumn the animals can be observed here, but also native bird species and amphibians offer an interesting natural spectacle all year round. The lookout tower offers a beautiful view over the vast area. If you are lucky, you can even spot foxes. A touch and feel trail invites you to put your own perception to the test. Informative display boards and the nearby NABU information center guarantee an educational excursion.
The two other protected areas are Krummsteert-Sulsdorfer Wiek in southeast Fehmarn and the Nördliche Seeniederung. They too consist of moors, inland lakes, salt marshes, and extensive green areas of a diverse flora and fauna protected habitat.
