Hanseatic city Lübeck

The Hanseatic city of Lübeck lends its name to the Bay of Lübeck and is located in the southeast of Schleswig-Holstein on the border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is flowed through by the river Trave, which flows into the Baltic Sea in the district of Travemünde.
The many beautiful brick buildings spread maritime flair. Lübeck's town hall, for example, is particularly worth seeing. For centuries it was one of the largest medieval town halls in Germany and is still the heart of the Hanseatic city. The architectural mixture of styles, from Gothic to Rococo to Renaissance, illustrates the building's eventful history. This is portrayed in particular in the European Hanse Museum. As the "Queen of the Hanseatic League", the modern brick building is home to exhibits that date back to the Middle Ages. Interactive experience stations command a journey through the time of the powerful trade alliance that shaped Europe for a long time.
In addition, Lübeck is famous for a well-known dessert: Lübeck marzipan. In the Niederegger Marzipan Museum, you can follow the path of sweet happiness from the Orient to Lübeck. Did you know that marzipan was originally available as a medicine exclusively in pharmacies?
By the way: As the setting for Thomas Mann's novel "Buddenbrooks," for which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature, and as the home of other important writers in German literary history, the examination of it is an important focus of cultural life in the Hanseatic city.
